Microchipping & Veterinary Documentation

Whether you are travelling, moving abroad or simply want your pet permanently identifiable, our team can provide the veterinary identification and documentation you need — with honest advice on what each process can and cannot guarantee.

What to expect

Identification and paperwork, sorted

A lost pet with no identification may never find their way home, and a pet travelling abroad without the right paperwork can be turned back at the border. Both problems are preventable, and both are handled by our team.

We provide the veterinary side of identification and documentation — microchips, records and certificates — and we will be clear about which parts of a move or journey are our responsibility and which fall to you or to other authorities.

Documentation and identification services

  • Microchipping and registration of your pet’s unique chip number
  • Vaccination records and certificates
  • Health certificates for travel or boarding
  • Titre (antibody) testing where required
  • Export-related veterinary documentation
  • Other veterinary paperwork required by authorities or transporters

How microchipping works

1

Health check

Before implanting a chip we give your pet a brief examination to confirm they are well and that the procedure is appropriate.

2

Implantation

A small chip is placed under the skin between the shoulder blades, a bit like a routine injection. Most pets barely react, and no anaesthetic is needed.

3

Scan and confirm

We scan the chip to confirm it reads correctly, so you leave knowing it is working.

4

Registration

We record the chip number and your contact details so that, if your pet is ever found and scanned, they can be traced back to you.

5

Record-keeping

The chip number is added to your pet’s file and can be included on certificates and travel documents as required.

An important distinction

Mecco provides veterinary documentation and clinical certification. We are not a travel agency or a pet-shipping service, and we cannot arrange flights, carriers or border clearance. If you are planning to move or travel with your pet, contact us early so we can confirm what tests, certificates and timing your destination requires.

Requirements differ by country and change from time to time, including vaccination validity windows and titre-test rules. Some destinations need months of preparation, so please start the conversation well before your travel date. We will tell you honestly what we can certify and what you must confirm with the authorities yourself.

Why microchip, and a realistic note on limits

A microchip is a permanent form of identification that no collar can match. If your pet is lost and scanned, the chip number links them back to you. It is also increasingly required for travel and boarding, and it cannot fall off or be removed the way a tag can.

A chip only works if your registered contact details are current. If your phone number or address changes, please tell us so we can update the record — an unregistered chip is of little help. Microchipping is quick and low-risk, but it is identification, not a GPS tracker: it tells us who a pet belongs to, not where they are. We would rather set that expectation clearly than let you rely on something it cannot do.
