Cat care

Care designed
around cats.

Cats need a different approach — quieter handling, an understanding of feline stress and a team who respects their independence. That is exactly what Mecco provides.

Cat-friendly veterinary care

Cats are not small dogs, and they should not be treated as such. They experience stress, pain and illness differently, and a clinic that understands this makes an enormous difference to how they cope with a visit.

At Mecco we use low-stress handling, quiet examination and patient, gentle contact. Our aim is that your cat leaves calmer than they arrived.

Kitten care

The first months set the foundation for a lifetime of health:

  • A full first examination to check growth, eyes, ears, heart and umbilicus
  • A tailored vaccination course spaced over several weeks
  • Deworming and flea prevention appropriate to age
  • Microchipping and record keeping
  • Neutering advice and nutrition guidance

Vaccination

Vaccination protects cats against some of the most serious feline diseases, including feline panleukopenia and the viruses behind cat flu. Rabies vaccination is recommended for every cat, including indoor cats.

We match the protocol to your cat’s age and lifestyle, and keep a record so protection never lapses.

Spaying and neutering

Spaying prevents pyometra — a life-threatening uterine infection — and reduces the risk of mammary tumours. Neutering reduces roaming, marking and fighting. Both are performed under anaesthesia with careful monitoring and pain relief.

Dental care

Cats hide mouth pain exceptionally well. Bad breath, dropping food or eating on one side can all point to dental disease. We examine the whole mouth, and clean or extract teeth under anaesthesia when needed.

Parasite control

  • Fleas and ticks, which remain active year-round in our climate
  • Intestinal worms, contracted from the environment or prey
  • Ear mites, a common cause of scratching and head shaking
  • A consistent preventive plan matched to your cat’s lifestyle

Hospitalization and cat boarding

When a cat needs to stay with us, we keep them in a calm, quiet area away from dogs, with careful monitoring and nursing care. Our boarding service is available by arrangement for cats who need somewhere safe and supervised to stay while you travel.

Common feline conditions we treat

  • Cat flu and upper respiratory infection
  • Dental disease and gingivitis
  • Urinary tract problems and blockages
  • Abscesses and bite wounds from fighting
  • Skin conditions and over-grooming
  • Vomiting, diarrhoea and appetite loss
